Chinese New Year

KS1 celebrated China and Chinese New year in January/February 2019. During this short project the children learned about Chinese culture, crafts and cookery. They made spring rolls, tasted chicken and sweetcorn soup, made cherry blossom branches and fans and wrote their names in Mandarin. We tweeted some pictures from these activities on our school Twitter account.
Through the activities both staff and pupils developed their understanding of Chinese culture.
In February we were visited by two teachers from China (through our link with Edge Hill University's Confucius Institute) who spent the morning in KS1 and Reception classes teaching the children basic Chinese! You can see the children enjoying some of the lessons below.
Unfortunately we were unable to establish any helpful contact with the partner school we had found in China for this event, so we were very grateful for the Confucius Institute teachers for stepping in!
