Class News 2018 - 2019

Update April 2019

P.E.

This term the children will be learning gymnastic and dance skills.

Please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school at all times.

 Make and Bake

Thank you to the families who have already paid this for last term and this term. If you have not already sent in Make and Bake money please could you send in by 10th May 2019. It is £3 per term (£3 January – March and £3 April – July).

Homework

There is work set for the children using the online ‘My Maths’ website. The children have all been given their own log in codes so that they can access the activities set from home.

We also complete some of these activities in school.

The children are continuing to work on their 4x times tables. They should be fluent not only with the multiplication facts but also know the division facts. For example 3 x 4 = 12  and 12 ÷ 4 = 3.

Weekly spellings will continue as normal. Please ensure that your child practises these at home and remembers to bring in the spelling book each week.

Groovy Greeks

Our new topic after the next half term is Ancient Greece. We would like to hold a full Ancient Greek Day and have a Greek banquet which will be funded out of Make and Bake money.

More details will follow nearer the time.

Reading

Please can all families continue to read with their child every night, even it is just for 5 minutes your child will benefit from this. We cannot stress the importance of this. Even if your child is an independent reader they still need support from reading with an adult and being asked questions about the text to check their understanding.

Science Topic

Our topic this term is plants. On Friday 10th May 2019 we would like the children to come in in old clothes so that we can have a day clearing the poly tunnel. We can then plant new plants (the children will be deciding which plants they want to grow) and the children will take responsibility to ensure that these are watered and looked after.

On this day we will also have a picnic outside so the children do not need to bring in snack this day.

Both of these activities will also be paid for from Make and Bake money.

Update March 2019

The children had a vert enjoyable trip to the Liverpool Philharmonic this month and performed as part of a schools choir. They learnt about different composers and the role of a conductor in the choir plus the different sections and how they must all work together.

Make and Bake

If you have not already sent in Make and Bake money (The £3 covers the whole term from January to March) please could you send it in to school  by Friday 15th March.

Ancient Egyptians

Our topic this term is Ancient Egypt and we would be happy for the children to bring in and share any exciting facts they have found out.

December 2018

This has been a very busy term and the children have particularly enjoyed learning about the Stone Age and natural disasters. Your support at home has grown their interest and excitement even more!
I am sure you will agree that their recent assembly really showed all they have learnt this term and the progression they have made in djembe is outstanding. We were very proud of all of the children who remembered their lines really well and were loud and proud in their delivery. There are photos and videos of the assembly on twitter.

Your children will probably have shared the exciting news that we were runners up in the Sefton Shining Stars Awards for the fundraising that the children organised for the Indonesian Earthquake Appeal. The children who represented the class had a fabulous time and brought back sweets and certificates to share.

Many thanks for the kinds words and gifts this Christmas and we wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable break.
