Educational Psychologist

Jo O'Leary

My name is Jo O'Leary and I am the Educational Psychologist allocated to Summerhill Primary.  An educational psychologist provides guidance and support to schools on a range of issues including special educational needs.  I work with parents, carers and practitioners to identify and support the needs of individual children both at home and school.

I am a qualified teacher and taught for nine years in a mainstream school and a school for children with social, emotional and behavioural needs.  I then trained to be an educational psychologist in Liverpool and am currently at a senior level within the service.  I completed a doctorate in educational psychology in 2012.  Three years ago, I began working for Sefton also.

I may be asked to assess or observe your child, in order to gain information which will ensure your child's needs are best met.  As part of any assessment or observation I will meet with you, with teachers and other professionals involved with your child.  You will receive a report which reflects yours, your child's and other professionals views.  It will also make recommendations as to how your child may be supported.
