Governors' Narratives

Dave Stamper

I have been a Governor at Summerhill now for over ten years and I currently hold the position of Chair.  I have three Children who have all attended Summerhill in the past. I started as a Governor to enable me to gain a better understanding of how a school is ran and hopefully to have a positive effect on how the school evolves in the future. I find the school an amazing place to be, the dedication of the staff and behavior of children is nothing short of AMAZING.

I have been involved in education as a teacher and senior school leader all my working life. I am passionate about the need for successful state education. Summerhill seems to balance the need for strong pupil progress with a sense of community and mutual care. This was evident as soon as I visited for the first time; it values all pupils equally regardless of ability, need or background.

As a local resident and Parish Councillor I am especially interested in all our local schools and frequently hear very positive comments from our local community. I am proud to be associated with Summerhill School and hope to be able to assist in its further success.

After twenty years teaching at Summerhill retiring in 2010, it is a privilege to have been asked to be a community governor.
Our five children were educated at Summerhill and I am totally committed to and passionate about the future of the school.
I see marketing the school of great importance and obviously as an ex-member of staff I am willing to be involved in any aspects of school life. Therefore I will bring to the role my experience as a teacher, parent and member of the community."

I’ve been a Community Governor at Summerhill  for almost four years now and the time has flown by. I worked as an Accountant in the NHS in Liverpool for 20 years before retiring in late 2011. For the last two academic years I have had the great pleasure of being the link Governor for year 1 and I am often in the classroom interacting with the children. I feel that it’s a privilege to be part of such a warm and vibrant school. In addition to the link role, I am a member of four of the key school committees.

I was delighted to be accepted as a Governor at Summerhill in July 2014.

I have an in depth knowledge of Primary Education having been a teacher for 36 years and a Headteacher for 12 of those!  As such I can appreciate both the wonderful things that Summerhill does AND all the hard work that goes into it from all the staff and governors. Hopefully I am well placed to support the school in its exciting journey as it moves forward taking on all the new initiatives.

I feel privileged at being appointed as a parent governor at Summerhill School and I hope to be able to play an active role in helping to foster the ethos and excellent teaching of the school.

It’s always my pleasure to help out with school trips as well as being a forest school parent helper and link governor for year 4 so you will see me pop up around school.

I have a son in year 3 and I also attended Summerhill as a pupil many moons ago so the school is very special for me.

I am also actively involved in the local community through my role as a Parish Councillor and various voluntary positions and I have had over 20 years’ experience of working in higher education and I am qualified as a level 3 Teaching Assistant. I hope to be able to draw upon some of these experiences in my role as parent governor and I look forward to working with the exception staff, pupils and parents of the school.

I was delighted at being appointed as a parent governor at Summerhill School in October 2015.

I have a son in year 1 and I also a son aged 2 whom I hope will attend Summerhill also.

I have an in depth knowledge of Education with being a teacher of Computing at a local secondary school for over 7 years and by being appointed parent governor I hope to gain a better understanding of how a primary school operates. I also aim to draw upon my experiences in education and as a parent to have a positive effect on how the school evolves in the future.

In the short time I have been associated with the school both as a parent and a governor I can appreciate the wonderful things that Summerhill do for their students and all the hard work and commitment the staff put in and I am very thankful for their efforts.

I am a fully qualified Human Resources professional with over 15 years’ experience working in this field. I have a son in Year 1 and another son aged 4 whom I hope will join Summerhill in September 2016.   As a parent I appreciate the hard work of all the staff at Summerhill and I am keen to play an active role in supporting the school.
